A Brick Township man has been indicted in connection with the drug overdose death of a 27-year-old woman earlier this year, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced.

Roderick Seward, 31, of Brick Township, was indicted by an Ocean County Grand Jury on August 26 on charges of Strict Liability Drug Induced Death, Distribution of Cocaine, and Possession of Cocaine.

The charges stem from the January 26 death of a woman at a Brick Township residence. Police responded to the home at approximately 9:10 a.m. following a report of an unresponsive female and found the victim deceased from an apparent drug overdose.

An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Brick Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office determined that Seward had supplied cocaine to the victim.

Authorities said toxicology testing later confirmed cocaine in the woman’s system. The Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the cocaine was the cause of her death.

Seward was charged on June 17 and surrendered to Brick Township Police Headquarters that day. He was subsequently transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he has remained lodged.

The investigation was conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and Narcotics Strike Force, Brick Township Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office.
