Lakewood Township has completed two major infrastructure projects aimed at improving traffic flow, drainage and roadway safety across the township.

Along Pine Street, New Jersey Natural Gas and New Jersey American Water replaced aging underground gas and water lines with higher-capacity infrastructure. Following the utility work, Pine Street was repaved and restriped between Route 9 and New Hampshire Avenue, with new lane markings, turning lanes and crosswalks. An additional traffic lane was also added between Avenue of the States and Washington Avenue to help improve traffic flow.

Meanwhile, the extensive Arboretum Parkway project is now nearly complete, with only minor landscaping work remaining. Construction began in late 2025 and stretches from 14th Street through Teaberry Court. The project included a complete overhaul of the underground drainage system to increase capacity during heavy rainfall, followed by repaving, restriping and landscaping improvements throughout the area.

Township officials said a significant portion of the work was completed during the summer, when traffic volumes were lighter, helping reduce disruptions. Progress was also made on several other infrastructure projects around Lakewood.

“Nobody likes road construction, but these utility and infrastructure upgrades are precisely what Lakewood needs in the 21st century,” Deputy Mayor Menashe Miller said. Miller also called on JCP&L to make similar upgrades to its electrical infrastructure.
