Tragedy in Yerushalayim: 14-Year-Old Belzer Bochur Yehuda Aryeh Weber z”l Passes Away

Aug 30, 2026·2 min read

The Belzer community in Yerushalayim was plunged into mourning on Shabbos afternoon with the passing of the young bochur Yehuda Aryeh “Yudel” Weber z”l following a five-year battle with a serious illness. He was just 14 years old.

Yehuda Aryeh z”l was the son of Reb Shmuel Weber, a prominent Belzer chossid, and Mrs. Malka Ginendel Weber. His paternal grandfather is Reb Shlomo Weber, proprietor of the well-known grocery store on 16th Avenue in Boro Park. His maternal grandfather is Reb Boruch Mordechai Kupferstein, a prominent mashpia in Belz.

Yudel attended the Belzer Talmud Torah in Yerushalayim. Last Av, he began learning in the Belzer yeshiva ketana in Yerushalayim.

Despite the difficult treatments he was forced to undergo, Yudel displayed extraordinary determination to continue his learning and attend yeshiva. Even as he struggled with his illness, he made tremendous efforts to come to yeshiva whenever he was able.

Over the course of the past five years, Yudel endured tremendous suffering, which those close to him said he accepted quietly and with remarkable strength and emunah.

Throughout his illness, countless people davened for Yehuda Aryeh ben Malka Ginendel and hoped for his recovery. Tragically, on Shabbos afternoon, Parshas Ki Savo, he returned his pure neshamah to its Creator.

The levayah was held on Motzoei Shabbos, departing from the Sanhedria Funeral Home in Yerushalayim. The procession passed the Belzer Bais Medrash in Kiryat Belz before continuing to the Kahal Machzikei Hadas section of Har Hamenuchos, where Yudel was brought to kevurah.

Yehi zichro boruch.
