A Jackson Township woman has been sentenced to seven years in New Jersey state prison after pleading guilty to shooting a 79-year-old man last year, authorities said.

Marian Rojas, 34, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Kenneth Palmer in connection with the October 24, 2025, shooting in Jackson Township.

Rojas pleaded guilty to aggravated assault on June 15, 2026. Her sentence is subject to the state’s No Early Release Act, requiring her to serve at least 85% of the sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

According to Ocean County Prosecutor Brad Billhimer, Jackson Township police responded to a residence on Jackson Pines Road at about 9:15 p.m. on October 24, 2025, after receiving a report of a shooting.

Officers found a 79-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his shoulder. He was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment of what prosecutors described as minor injuries and was later released.

An investigation determined that Rojas was the person who shot the victim before fleeing the scene, authorities said. Police broadcast a description of Rojas and the vehicle she was driving to surrounding law enforcement agencies.

About 45 minutes later, at approximately 10 p.m., Manchester Township police stopped a vehicle matching the description. Rojas was driving the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident, according to prosecutors.

Rojas was transported to the Ocean County Jail, where she had remained detained since her arrest.

Billhimer said the victim’s response to the case played a significant role in the resolution.

“This sentence reflects the extraordinary compassion and forgiveness shown by the victim throughout the pendency of this case,” Billhimer said. “The victim’s unequivocal desire to extend mercy to this defendant was a significant factor in the State’s willingness to resolve this case in this manner.”

Rojas will serve her sentence in a New Jersey state prison.
