WATCH: Israel Police Find 1.4 Million Shekels in Suspected Terror Cash Hidden in Secret Car Compartment
The Israel Police announced Sunday that it had seized roughly 1.4 million shekels in suspected terror funds from a vehicle it had stopped at a checkpoint in Jerusalem. The police arrested the 29-year-old driver, a resident of Jerusalem, and turned him over for a joint investigation by Israel Police and the Shin Bet.
The money was discovered inside a double wall in the vehicle that served as a secret panel. According to the Israel Police Spokesperson’s Unit, the car was attempting to enter Jerusalem through the Tunnel Checkpoint from Judea’s Gush Etzion region. The police said it stopped the car for inspection and discovered the secret panel, which concealed two bags of cash, during its inspection.
A judge extended the suspect’s custody until Aug. 31, when he will appear in court.
