During an appearance at a Manhattan synagogue on Friday, Governor Kathy Hochul confirmed that the state is prepared to allocate additional funding and deploy New York State Police personnel to help secure houses of worship throughout the upcoming holiday period. The state executive underscored an ongoing commitment to safeguarding religious sites and ensuring that community members can gather and pray without fear.

The heightened security measures follow an incident earlier this month in which an intruder entered the midtown Manhattan sanctuary during Friday night services, assaulting an attendee and a member of the building’s security team before being apprehended. Following that disturbance, local and state officials emphasized the urgent need to maintain fortified perimeters and visible law enforcement patrols around sensitive communal facilities.

With New York serving as home to the largest Jewish community outside of Israel, the governor emphasized the administration’s broader duty to confront acts of hatred and bigotry directly, noting that violence against any single group represents an affront to the entire state. The administration indicated that investments in physical security grants, infrastructure hardening, and proactive law enforcement coordination will remain top priorities throughout the autumn holidays and beyond.
