The National Association of Christian Lawmakers (NACL) sent a letter to President Donald Trump Thursday urging him to create an expedited legal pathway for Canadian Jews facing persecution who wish to emigrate.

The letter, signed by NACL founder and president Jason Rapert, U.S. Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom Sam Brownback, and other state legislators and civic leaders, was also sent to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, congressional leaders, and state senators.

“For generations, America has served as a refuge for people fleeing religious persecution,” the letter said. “We urge you to ensure that, consistent with federal law and the security interests of the United States, that door remains open to our Jewish brothers and sisters in Canada who need it today.”

According to the letter, more than 2,000 Canadian Jews wanted to leave Canada as a result of threats and violence targeting Jewish schools, synagogues, and families amid mounting safety concerns since the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks on Israel.

The group asked Trump to instruct the State Department and Department of Homeland Security to create a process for Canadian Jews who face persecution or who can show that they have reason to fear persecution based on their Jewish identity. The letter also cautioned that whatever process was devised, it must retain identity, criminal history, and medical and security screening, as well as protect family unity.

The letter also suggested the need for coordination among states, local governments, Jewish organizations, churches, nonprofits, and even employers who were willing to assist arriving families.

According to the letter, Jewish and Christian leaders in Tulsa, Okla., in particular, have stepped up to offer to help resettle Jewish families in Tulsa.
