The New York City Health Department will conduct another round of mosquito spraying across parts of Boro Park today, Monday, August 31, along with a wide section of surrounding neighborhoods.

Health Department trucks will spray a low concentration of pesticide as part of the city’s mosquito-control efforts, aimed at reducing the adult mosquito population in the designated treatment area.

In Boro Park, the spray zone reaches the area around 18th Avenue and 50th Street, extending toward Church Avenue, Dahill Road, and into surrounding neighborhoods. The larger treatment area reaches toward the Gowanus Expressway and Third Avenue to the west and Atlantic Avenue farther north.

The spraying is part of the Health Department’s ongoing mosquito-control program, which is used to reduce mosquito populations and help limit the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses such as West Nile virus.

The Health Department says the pesticide used for mosquito control poses a low risk to people and pets. Residents are nevertheless advised to remain indoors when possible while spraying is underway, particularly those with asthma or other respiratory conditions.

Residents should also note that the boundaries shown on the city’s map are approximate and are not intended to identify the exact streets or individual properties that will be treated.

Today’s spraying follows a similar mosquito-control operation carried out in parts of Boro Park and southern Brooklyn earlier this month, as previously reported by Boro Park 24.
