MANHATTAN, NYC (Aug. 31, 2026)
A Jewish man was assaulted Monday near 47th Street and Sixth Avenue in Manhattan in what authorities are investigating as an antisemitic hate crime.
The victim was approached by a man who stole his hat before striking him in the temple while shouting antisemitic and deeply offensive remarks. The suspect then fled the area.
NYPD officers and Manhattan Shomrim responded quickly, and the suspect was later taken into custody.
Although the suspect was released without bail, the case remains active and he is expected to face prosecution for the alleged assault and hate crime charges.
The NYPD Hate Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate the incident. Appreciation was also expressed to the responding officers and Manhattan Shomrim volunteers for assisting the victim and helping bring the suspect into custody.
