- LSTA: It has been speculated that Governor Sherrill is out to get Lakewood as a form of revenge for the community’s rejection of her as a gubernatorial candidate. The community voted overwhelmingly against her both in the Democratic primary and in the general election, and some prominent local advocacy groups strongly endorsed her opponents both times. During the primary, some activists urged everyone to become a “Democrat for a day” and vote for Josh Gottheimer, who had no chance of winning. - Georgian Court University in Lakewood growing class of new students begin Tuesday, September 8, with freshman and transfer enrollment both increasing for the 2026–27 academic year. The university expects to enroll approximately 2,000 students overall, with particularly strong growth in nursing and continued interest across a range of undergraduate and graduate programs.
- The Lakewood Fire Department officially accepted delivery of our new 2026 Seagrave 75’ AerialScope Tower Ladder. The apparatus was ordered in 2022 and represents a major investment in the department and the safety of our community. Chief of Department Jonathan Yahr and Board of Fire Commissioners Chairman Yakov Steinberg were on hand to accept delivery and welcome the new truck to the fleet. Cost is about $1.6 million.
