NEW YORK (VINnews) — Surveillance video posted Sunday by Manhattan Shomrim appears to show the assault of a Hasidic Jewish man in Midtown Manhattan the previous Monday.

The incident occurred near 47th Street and Sixth Avenue, according to Manhattan Shomrim. The group said the suspect approached the man, stole his hat and punched him in the temple while shouting antisemitic and derogatory remarks.

The suspect fled the scene but was later arrested after the NYPD responded to the incident. Manhattan Shomrim said the NYPD Hate Crimes Unit is investigating the case.

The suspect was released without bail, according to the group, but is expected to face assault and antisemitic hate crime charges.

Manhattan Shomrim thanked the responding officers and its volunteers for assisting the victim and urged anyone who witnesses an antisemitic attack to call 911.
