Aug 31, 2026·1 min read

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — The Israel Defense Forces on Monday announced that Maj. Gen. Dado Bar Kalifa has been officially nominated as the next chief of Central Command.

The military said Defense Minister Israel Katz approved IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir’s recommendation to appoint Bar Kalifa to the post. He is slated to assume the role in 2027, “subject to an operational situation assessment.”

Bar Kalifa currently heads the Personnel Directorate. He previously commanded the 36th Division during months of fighting against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Zamir also announced a broader round of senior appointments, including three new brigadier generals and 11 new colonels. Two brigadier generals and 23 colonels are moving to new positions at the same rank. Another 19 senior officers are being sent to studies between assignments.

The full list of appointments remains pending Katz’s approval.
