Speaking to the Republican Jewish Coalition via video from Washington, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson expressed confidence that the war with Iran would be over by the time Americans headed to the polls for the midterm elections in November.

Johnson told those assembled at the group’s annual leadership summit in Las Vegas that the war must be resolved, but the United States also must finish the job.

“We’ve got to resolve this,” he said. “We have to bring it to a resolution, but we can’t leave without having this completely finished.”

“A nuclear armed Iran is a threat to freedom everywhere,” he said. “So this was an important objective. We got it done.”

“Now we’re in the process of winding this down,” he said. “I think we can get this done. So, if we wrap it up in the next 64 days, that’d be great as we go into the midterm election.”

“But even if not, I think we can explain why that was necessary,” Johnson said.

Ron Dermer, formerly Israel’s ambassador to the U.S., delivered remarks to the coalition in which he also said that Iran must be defeated.

“Iran was beaten pretty badly and now they’re on their way into the dustbin of history,” he said, noting the severe degradation of Iran’s military capabilities and its current economic pain inflicted upon it by the United States. He also called on President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance to topple the Iranian regime.

“The greatest vulnerability of Iran is that its own people hate it and those people want to be free and they will be free,” he said. “The United States has to have a policy, whether they declare it publicly or not— what I would suggest humbly to the president, and I know the vice president is going to be later here today — that they have a policy that by the time Trump leaves office, Iran is free.”
