Thousands of Boro Park residents are making their way back home after spending the summer weeks in the Catskills in the camps, countries, and bungalow colonies — and some may notice that parts of the neighborhood look a little different than when they left.

While many families were away, paving crews were busy across parts of Boro Park and the surrounding area, resurfacing a long list of heavily traveled streets and avenues and giving several familiar stretches a noticeably smoother ride.

Among the roads repaved were Fort Hamilton Parkway from 53rd Street to 62nd Street, New Utrecht Avenue from 39th Street to 50th Street, and 44th Street from 8th Avenue to 13th Avenue.

Crews also repaved 49th Street from New Utrecht Avenue to 18th Avenue, 56th Street from 14th Avenue to 18th Avenue, and 14th Avenue from around 39th Street toward 35th Street.

Other resurfacing work included Clara Street, 20th Avenue, Avenue I extending toward Ocean Parkway, Cortelyou Road extending toward Ocean Parkway, and 60th Street from 8th Avenue to Fort Hamilton Parkway.

For residents returning after weeks away, the newly paved roads are visible changes waiting around the neighborhood, with smoother pavement now covering several busy local routes used every day by drivers, buses, cyclists, and pedestrians.

So while the return to Boro Park may also mean the return of traffic, packed streets, and the usual post-summer rush, at least a number of the neighborhood’s roads are welcoming residents back with a fresh layer of pavement.
