A serious fire broke out Monday evening inside a Lorimer Street apartment after a dryer became engulfed in flames, causing significant damage to the laundry room and filling the area with smoke.

Chaveirim volunteers responded to the scene as the FDNY was dispatched to battle the fire. The dryer was fully engulfed when emergency personnel arrived, with flames spreading through the laundry area.

FDNY firefighters quickly worked to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the apartment. 

The fire was ultimately contained to the laundry area, although the room sustained significant damage.

Firefighting operations also left a substantial amount of water in the laundry room and surrounding area. After the fire was extinguished and the scene was secured, Chaveirim volunteers remained at the apartment to assist the residents with the cleanup.

Volunteers worked to remove water left behind by the firefighting operation, clean the affected areas and air out the apartment. Fans were brought in to help clear the lingering smoke odor and improve ventilation.

While the laundry room and dryer sustained significant damage, the quick response prevented the fire from spreading further into the home.
