Popular children’s educator and YouTube personality Ms. Rachel was confronted about her public comments on Israel during an unexpected encounter at a neighborhood park, according to podcaster Avi Lichtschein.

Lichtschein discussed the exchange on a recent episode of his podcast, “Depends on the Context,” saying he happened to encounter Rachel Griffin Accurso while both were at the park with their children.

According to Lichtschein, he asked Accurso why she had taken what he viewed as an anti-Israel position. He said she responded that she was not opposed to Israel itself, but rather to the Israeli government and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Lichtschein said he challenged that distinction, arguing that criticism of Netanyahu and opposition to Israel can become difficult to separate when broader claims are made about the country’s actions.

The conversation also reportedly turned to Accurso’s statements accusing Israel of genocide in its war against Hamas. Lichtschein said she referenced the deaths of Palestinian children, while he argued that genocide has a specific legal and historical meaning and should not simply be used as a description of civilian deaths during a war.

He also warned that what he described as sweeping accusations against Israel can have consequences beyond the conflict itself, potentially contributing to hostility toward Jews around the world.

According to Lichtschein, Accurso emphasized during the conversation that she has Jewish family connections through her husband and considers herself supportive of Israel’s existence as a Jewish state. The exchange nevertheless became heated before Accurso walked away.

Lichtschein said he later spoke with Accurso’s husband and apologized for upsetting her, while maintaining that he stood by the substance of what he had said.

He explained that his intention was not necessarily to change Accurso’s views, but to challenge her to consider the influence and responsibility that come with having an enormous audience of parents and children.

Lichtschein said he believes Accurso’s activism is rooted in genuine concern for children rather than hatred toward Jews. He nevertheless criticized what he described as her willingness to amplify claims about Israel without fully considering their broader implications.

He also noted that Accurso has described herself as a Zionist, drawing a comparison to former New York City Comptroller Brad Lander, while arguing that someone can identify as a Zionist and still hold strongly critical views of Israel.

Lichtschein’s central criticism, he said, is not that Accurso cares about Palestinian children, but that her massive platform gives her an added responsibility to carefully examine the information and accusations she promotes—particularly when they can influence public perceptions of Israel and Jews worldwide.
