Retired NYPD Inspector Mark DiPaolo, who previously served as commanding officer of the 90th Precinct in Williamsburg, has passed away following an illness, marking the loss of a longtime police leader who spent more than three decades serving New York City.

DiPaolo served with the NYPD for more than 31 years, holding several major leadership positions during a lengthy career that took him across Brooklyn and Staten Island. For Williamsburg residents, he is particularly remembered for his time leading the 90th Precinct, which covers Williamsburg and surrounding neighborhoods.

His career later included serving as commanding officer of the 84th Precinct in Brooklyn Heights, as well as commanding officer of the Detective Borough Staten Island, placing him in charge of major investigative and policing operations during different stages of his service.

DiPaolo retired from the NYPD in early 2021 after more than three decades in law enforcement. Those who worked alongside him remembered him as a dedicated leader and colleague who spent much of his career overseeing officers and serving communities throughout New York City.

His passing has prompted tributes from members of the law enforcement community who knew him throughout his career. Funeral and memorial services are being held this week as family, friends, and former colleagues gather to pay their final respects.
