New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani visited Eichler’s Judaica in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Borough Park Wednesday ahead of Rosh Hashanah, where he was gifted a bottle of honey. A shofar was also blown while he was in the store.

This marked his first visit to the heavily ultra-Orthodox neighborhood since taking office.

A protester shouting at the camera was forcibly escorted out of the store after yelling with her back to the mayor but facing the camera of a local news outlet.

“It’s all because of you we have so much anti-Semitism. I can’t believe you’re in … a Jewish store before Rosh Hashanah. You’re causing all the anti-Semitism. You’re not the ambassador for America. Shame on you for coming to Borough Park,” she said, before being pushed away.

In another video, a protester, who may be the same one, is heard shouting in the background.

Video footage showed Mamdani engaging with community leaders and touring the Judaica store. He wished the crowd assembled there a “Shana Tova,” which is the equivalent of “Happy New Year,” the traditional greeting before Rosh Hashanah, which begins later this month.

“It is so lovely to be here, especially before the High Holidays, and to wish everyone a shanah tovah, and I really just appreciate the welcome and the conversations,” he said.
