Brooklyn Bridge Horror: NYPD Shoots Knife-Wielding Man After He Charges at Officers

Sep 4, 2026·2 min read

A man armed with a knife was shot and killed by NYPD officers on the Brooklyn Bridge early Friday after he allegedly charged toward them, according to sources. The deadly encounter disrupted the morning commute.

The shooting comes just three days after NYPD officers were forced to shoot and kill a knife-wielding woman in Times Square who allegedly charged at police after attacking two people, one of whom was fatally wounded.

Police were responding to a report involving a person in distress when they encountered the armed man, who sources said had climbed onto the bridge’s cables.

According to sources, the man suddenly moved toward the officers with the knife, prompting police to open fire. He was fatally struck in the shooting. The NYPD had not immediately released an official account confirming the circumstances.

The incident led authorities to shut down the Brooklyn Bridge’s pedestrian walkway Friday morning as police investigated the shooting.

All lanes carrying traffic toward Brooklyn were closed at approximately 4:15 a.m. and were still blocked around 7:30 a.m., according to 511NY.

The NYPD urged the public to stay away from the area and cautioned commuters to anticipate delays “due to ongoing police activity.”

Few additional details were immediately available as the investigation continued.
