Israel carried out a series of strikes across southern Lebanon and the Western Beqaa after Hezbollah launched a drone toward IDF forces operating in the security zone. The drone was intercepted without causing injuries.

The IDF later targeted Hezbollah operatives and infrastructure, including weapons storage sites believed to be used in planning and directing attacks against Israeli troops and civilians. The IDF said the strikes were intended to eliminate an immediate threat and followed what it described as a serious violation by Hezbollah.

Meanwhile, the U.S. military struck three Iranian oil tankers on September 5 following ballistic missile attacks by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps against two U.S. Navy vessels in the region. The American ships avoided the attacks, and no U.S. personnel were injured.

U.S. Central Command said the targeted vessels were connected to a multibillion-dollar illicit oil network that helps finance the IRGC and its regional proxies. Two tankers were disabled, while a third was destroyed in the Gulf of Oman after its crew was ordered to abandon ship.

CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper warned Iran that attacks on American forces would bring an even greater economic response, saying the U.S. would not hesitate to defend its personnel or target Iran’s vulnerable oil fleet.

Iranian state media separately reported that another oil tanker near Kharg Island was struck by four U.S. missiles. No casualties were reported, while the crew evacuated and damage was being assessed.

U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth issued a similar warning, stating that if Iran fires on American ships, the U.S. will destroy and sink Iranian oil tankers.
