The Israel Foreign Ministry posted a video clip from Palestinian Media Watch, a watchdog group that monitors Arabic media, in which a spokesperson for the Palestinian Authority discusses how it got around Israel’s attempts to end its “pay for slay” program, which the PA calls the Martyrs’ Fund, despite acknowledging the hurdles and difficulties involved.

“Palestinian spokesman just admitted the truth: the Palestinian Authority’s “Pay-for-Slay” program never stopped. They just hid the paper trail,” the Foreign Ministry posted alongside the video.

“Despite international pressure to end it, the PA is still paying monthly financial rewards to convicted terrorists and their families, using circuitous banking routes, and indirect networks designed to evade foreign oversight,” it added. “Different route. Same reward for terror.”

“What the U.S. is asking for regarding the stopping of payments to prisoners and martyrs [what Palestinians call terrorists] and changing the Palestinian [school] curricula is something that unfortunately, we, as Palestinians, do not accept,” the spokesperson said in the video clip.

“But regarding the salaries of the martyrs and prisoners, has the payment of salaries to many of them been stopped?” the interviewer asked.

“No, the tax money was stolen by Israel so the payments would not reach the families of the martyrs and our prisoners and wounded,” he answered. “The PA does not even have a budget to pay the salaries of our public employees. Therefore, when Israel and the U.S. realized there was a revolving door for paying the salaries of the martyrs and prisoners, we did not stop the payment of salaries.”
