
LAKEWOOD: Reports of Armed Person Prompt School Lockdowns; Individual Located, No Weapon Found, Police Say No Ongoing Threat
Lakewood Police say there is no known threat to the public following a Tuesday morning police response in the area of Laurel and Clover after authorities received a report of an individual who may have been armed.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., Lakewood Alerts reported that police were investigating reports of a person with a gun in the Clover Street area, prompting schools throughout the surrounding area to be placed on lockdown as a precaution.
According to a statement subsequently released by Lakewood Police, officers responded to the area of Laurel and Clover and began searching for the individual described in the initial report.
As the search was underway, a nearby school was placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution.
Police said an individual connected to the incident was later located. However, officers did not observe or recover a weapon.
“At this time, there is no known threat to the public and no indication of an ongoing threat in the area,” Lakewood Police said.
Officers are expected to remain in the area while they continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the initial report. Residents may continue to notice an increased police presence as a precaution.
Lakewood Police said additional information will be released as appropriate.
