New Jersey businesses can begin applying today for up to $25 million in state tax credits being auctioned to raise funding for programs aimed at combating hunger and improving food access across the Garden State.

The New Jersey Economic Development Authority opened applications Tuesday for its latest Food Desert Relief Tax Credit Auction. The program allows qualifying corporate taxpayers and insurance companies to purchase tax credits that can reduce their 2026 New Jersey tax liability by up to 15%.

Money raised through the auction will be used to support grants, loans, technical assistance and other programs designed to increase access to affordable and nutritious food in communities considered food deserts.

Businesses do not need to operate in the food industry or be located in a designated food desert to participate in the auction.

The NJEDA says previous proceeds from the program have helped fund initiatives including FEED NJ, a $30 million effort supporting new and expanded food-access projects throughout the state.

Applications opened Tuesday, September 8, at 10:00 a.m. and will remain open through October 9 at 5:00 p.m.
