
NYPD Seeks Suspect in Alleged Antisemitic Attack on Man’s Yarmulke
The NYPD is asking for the public’s help identifying a man wanted in connection with an alleged hate-crime incident in Lower Manhattan.
Police said that on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at approximately 1 p.m., a 39-year-old man was attempting to enter a commercial establishment near 1 Whitehall Street, within the 1st Precinct, when an unidentified individual approached him from behind.
According to police, the suspect slapped the victim’s yarmulke, causing it to fall to the ground, before fleeing on foot southbound on Whitehall Street.
The victim was not reported to have suffered any injuries.
Police are investigating the incident as aggravated harassment as a hate crime.
