Widow Sues Amazon Over Deadly Miami Cargo Plane Crash

MIAMI (VINnews) — The widow of a man killed when an Amazon cargo plane crashed near Miami International Airport has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against Amazon, the cargo carrier that operated the flight and the two pilots.

Attorneys for Yaraisi Santiso Morejon filed the suit Wednesday on behalf of her husband, 53-year-old Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, who was among five people killed in Sunday’s crash.

According to WSVN, the lawsuit alleges that pilot error, inadequate training and the age of the 32-year-old Boeing 767 may have contributed to the crash. The attorneys also allege the plane overshot the runway and that a go-around should have been attempted.

Rodriguez Naranjo was traveling in a van with six other men who worked for an aircraft-cleaning company when the plane overran the runway and struck the vehicle.

Two people in the van survived. One remained in critical condition and another was stable. A 79-year-old driver of a second vehicle struck by the plane also remained in critical condition, WSVN reported.

The aircraft was operated by 21 Air for Amazon. Federal investigators are continuing to examine the cause of the crash, and the lawsuit could be amended as additional information emerges.
