Belaaz has learned that more than 100 yeshiva bochurim subject to the draft and classified as ‘IDF deserters’ were arrested while attempting to travel to Uman for Rosh Hashanah. Most were arrested at Ben Gurion Airport.
This week alone, the peak travel period for Uman, 60 yeshiva-bochurim have been arrested and transferred to Prison 10, the official military prison.
Breslov rabbanim had instructed yeshiva students at risk of arrest not to travel to Uman this year, but a significant number went anyway.
According to IDF estimates, hundreds succeeded in leaving Israel via indirect routes. The army plans to arrest them upon their return after Rosh Hashanah.
