Living With the Rebbe – Living With the Times

The new year, 5787, will begin, this coming Friday night..

The year’s calendar configuration is Zashah (זשה): Rosh Hashanah begins on Shabbos (ז); it is a complete (שלימה) year, with 30 days in both Cheshvan and Kislev (ש); and the first day of Pesach falls on Thursday (ה). 5787 is also a leap year, with both Adar I and Adar II. The year contains 385 days and 55 Shabbosim.

This year will mark several significant milestones:

– 40 years since “Didan Notzach,” the victory of Hei Teves 5747;

– 100 years since the Chag HaGeulah of the Frierdiker Rebbe, Yud-Beis–Yud-Gimmel Tammuz 5687;

– 200 years since the Chag HaGeulah of the Mitteler Rebbe, Yud Kislev 5587.

Many Anash, shluchim, and temimim have taken upon themselves to spend the coming year learning and studying the Rebbe’s Torah from 5736, whose kvius corresponds to that of the coming year, throughout all 13 months.

The maamarim and sichos from that year were recently published in four volumes of Toras Menachem – Hisvaaduyos: Volumes 82, 83, 84, and 85. They are available through Kehot branches in Eretz Yisrael and around the world, as well as through Jewish bookstores in Chabad communities and shlichus locations worldwide.

In addition, in honor of the 45th anniversary of Lahak Hanochos, a special new project is being launched.

Through this project, it will be possible to learn, study, and download the texts of the Rebbe’s sichos from 5747 and 5750 — two years whose kvius was similar to 5787, with Rosh Hashanah beginning on Shabbos.
