Trump Reflects on Iran Strike & Rubashkin Commutation in Newly Reported White House Meeting

Sep 15, 2026·2 min read

A newly published report in Ami Magazine offers a glimpse into a conversation between President Donald Trump and a group of prominent Rabbonim during a pre-Rosh Hashanah meeting in the Oval Office.

According to reporter Yochonon Donn, Trump reflected on the differing reactions to two major actions of his administration: the U.S. military campaign against Iran and his 2017 commutation of the prison sentence of Reb Shalom Mordechai Rubashkin.

Trump reportedly told the Rabbonim that he was surprised by the contrast.

“You guys are funny,” Trump said, according to Ami. “I sent B-2 bombers to Iran. I bombed them to smithereens. If I wouldn’t have bombed them, they would have wiped out Israel, but I don’t get a thank you. But I pardoned this butcher from Iowa, he has some kind of funny name, and everybody is happy.”

When someone reminded him that the name was Rubashkin, Trump reportedly joked about the pronunciation before asking whether he was still alive.

The Rabbonim assured the president that Rubashkin was doing well. Reb Yoel Rosenfeld then told Trump that the commutation had sparked widespread celebration in the Jewish community.

“Mr. President, I want to tell you there was dancing in the streets of Brooklyn when this happened,” Rosenfeld said, according to the report.

Trump responded by referencing his support among Orthodox Jewish voters, saying, “Brooklyn? I got 94% of the vote in your areas.”

The president then returned to the circumstances surrounding Rubashkin’s lengthy prison sentence. According to Ami, Trump characterized the case as antisemitic and recalled questioning the prosecutor about the 28-year sentence.

Trump reportedly said he told the prosecutor that the sentence was excessive and ultimately informed him, “You’re an anti-Semite. I’m pardoning him.”

The account appears in Ami Magazine, Issue 784, in a report by Yochonon Donn.
