A fire broke out on the roof of Beis Rochel School at 135 Heyward Street Tuesday evening, shortly before a Bar Mitzvah was scheduled to take place in the building’s catering hall.

The FDNY responded quickly and brought the blaze under control. No injuries were reported.

The incident drew the attention of many community members, who gathered nearby to watch as firefighters worked at the scene. It is unclear whether the bar mitzvah will take place as planned.
