Trump Administration Preparing $2.8 Billion Bomb Sale to Israel
The Trump administration is preparing a $2.8 billion weapons package for Israel that would include 40,000 2,000-pound bombs, according to U.S. officials cited by The Washington Post and Reuters.
The proposed package includes 20,000 MK-84 bombs and 20,000 BLU-117 bombs, along with additional I-2000 penetrator warheads, according to the reports. The plan has been informally communicated to relevant congressional committees but has not yet been finalized.
The Washington Post described the proposal as the largest recent U.S. sale of 2,000-pound munitions to Israel. It would follow several major arms transfers approved since the beginning of the Trump administration, including a $2.04 billion weapons sale in 2025 that was expedited through emergency authorities.
A senior administration official said that pending foreign arms sales are proceeding through the appropriate process, while declining to comment specifically on the proposed transaction.
The proposed sale comes as the United States and Israel continue extensive military cooperation amid ongoing regional conflicts and heightened tensions with Iran and its allies.
