Manchester Township Man Sentenced to Six Years in State Prison for Toms River Shooting
A Manchester Township man has been sentenced to six years in New Jersey State Prison for his role in a 2024 shooting in Toms River Township, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced.
Anthony Zigarelli, 21, was sentenced on September 11 by Superior Court Judge Guy P. Ryan after previously pleading guilty to aggravated assault. The six-year sentence is subject to New Jersey’s No Early Release Act, requiring Zigarelli to serve at least 85% of the term before becoming eligible for parole.
Zigarelli was also sentenced to five years in state prison for being a certain person not to possess a weapon. The two sentences will run concurrently.
The charges stem from a May 14, 2024 incident near Camino Medio and Camino Verde in Toms River. Police responded shortly after 4:00 p.m. following multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire.
Investigators determined that a man was riding his bicycle through the area when Zigarelli and Anthony Ventrice, 19, of Toms River, were standing outside a vehicle. Prosecutors said Ventrice fired multiple shots toward the bicyclist before the two entered the vehicle. As they drove past the victim, Zigarelli allegedly fired additional shots in his direction.
The victim was not struck and was not injured.
Zigarelli was taken into custody by Toms River Township Police on May 29, 2024, and has remained detained at the Ocean County Jail. He pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and the weapons charge on June 1.
Ventrice, who was a juvenile at the time of the shooting, was also arrested following the incident. His case was later transferred to adult Criminal Court, and he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault on June 1. His sentencing remains pending.
Prosecutor Billhimer credited Assistant Prosecutor Emma Hurst, the Toms River Township Police Department, Lakewood Township Police Department and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit for their work on the case.
