Philadelphia Man Faces Weapons Charges Following Serious Lacey Township Crash
A Philadelphia man already charged with Assault by Auto following a serious head-on crash in Lacey Township is now facing multiple weapons charges after investigators allegedly recovered two loaded handguns and illegal ammunition from his vehicle.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that Jared Beswick, 27, of Philadelphia, was additionally charged with two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, three counts of Possession of a High-Capacity Ammunition Magazine, and Possession of Hollow Point Ammunition.
The charges stem from a September 13 crash on Route 539 near mile marker 16.5. Authorities say Beswick was driving a Ford Explorer northbound when the vehicle entered the southbound lane and collided head-on with a Toyota RAV4.
The driver of the Toyota and a passenger in Beswick’s vehicle were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where both were listed in serious but stable condition.
Investigators said Beswick showed signs of impairment, while officers observed open alcohol containers and pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes inside the vehicle. A court-authorized blood draw was obtained, and Beswick was initially charged with two counts of Assault by Auto.
On September 16, detectives executed a search warrant on the Ford Explorer and allegedly recovered two loaded handguns, three high-capacity ammunition magazines, and hollow point ammunition.
Beswick was served with the additional charges at the hospital. Upon his release, he is expected to be transported to the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
The crash remains under investigation, and prosecutors said additional charges may be forthcoming.
The investigation is being conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad, Lacey Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
All charges are accusations, and Beswick is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
