Two separate major incidents caused heavy disruptions on Route 6 Thursday morning, beginning with a vehicle that became fully engulfed in flames and followed by a second crash involving two vehicles nearby.

The first incident happened as a vehicle traveling on Route 6 towards Monroe, between the overlook and the Thruway caught fire and became fully engulfed in heavy flames. The Woodbury Fire Department and police responded to the scene, and Route 6 was closed as emergency crews worked to extinguish the massive blaze.

The closure caused major traffic delays in the area, as this part of Route 6 has only one lane, leaving vehicles heavily backed up along the roadway.

While traffic remained at a standstill because of the fire, one vehicle attempted to make a U-turn in order to get out of the congestion when it suddenly crashed in a head-on matter with an oncoming vehicle. The impact caused both vehicles to drift off the road and both of them to roll over.

Woodbury Police, the Woodbury Fire Department, Woodbury EMS, State Police, State Park Police, Highlands Police, and the West Point Fire Department responded to the second incident, causing an even bigger chaotic situation on site.

The two incidents caused massive delays throughout the area as emergency crews worked at both scenes and traffic remained heavily affected along Route 6.
