25 Years Later: Israel Is Home to A Unique 9/11 Memorial Outside USA
Twenty-five years after the September 11 attacks, Israel remains home to a memorial unlike any other outside the United States — one that honors every person who was killed that day.
Located in the Jerusalem hills near Arazim Valley, the 9/11 Living Memorial stands as a powerful tribute to the nearly 3,000 victims of the attacks. At the center of the site is a towering 30-foot bronze sculpture depicting an American flag transforming into a flame, symbolizing both the tragedy and the enduring memory of those lost.
The monument also incorporates a tangible piece of Ground Zero: a section of steel recovered from the World Trade Center ruins that was transported from New York to Israel.
Surrounding the sculpture are stone plaques bearing the names of all 2,977 victims, ensuring that each person is individually remembered. Among those names are five Israeli citizens who lost their lives in the attacks.
The memorial serves as a lasting reminder of the close bond between the United States and Israel, while preserving the memory of the victims for generations to come.
