The Town of Tuxedo is moving forward with a major redevelopment of Powerhouse Park, advancing plans to transform the existing roughly 33-acre property into a larger recreational destination with new improved access, and expanded opportunities for residents and visitors.
The first phase focuses on major improvements throughout the existing park, with plans calling for a new playground, new or upgraded ball courts, walking trails, improvements to the dog park, reconfigured parking, and a stage with outdoor seating. Conceptual plans also include a covered pavilion and fire-pit area, basketball court, angler parking, commuter parking, and improved connections toward the nearby Tuxedo train station.
Plans for the project have been advancing since at least 2024. The Town completed its environmental review of the first phase in June 2025, and by February 2026, the Town Board had a resolution on its agenda to award the bid for the Powerhouse Park improvements, moving the project into the contracting stage. The work is expected to be carried out in phases as funding becomes available, allowing the park to remain in use during the redevelopment.
State Senator James Skoufis secured $125,000 in state funding for the project in 2024, providing an initial investment toward the broader redevelopment. Additional Town and county-related funding has also been used for planning and design work connected to the project.
A more ambitious second phase could eventually extend the redevelopment beyond the park itself. Plans envision a Riverwalk along the Ramapo River and a pedestrian bridge that would connect Powerhouse Park with trails on the opposite side of the river, potentially creating a larger recreational route toward Augusta Falls. The Town has already accepted a $75,000 Greenway matching grant for the Riverwalk, with a required $37,500 Town contribution.
That portion of the project remains further down the road, with the Riverwalk and bridge still requiring additional design, environmental review, permitting, and funding before construction can move ahead. If ultimately completed, the broader vision would take advantage of Powerhouse Park’s location near Route 17, the train station, and the Ramapo River, creating a recreational hub connecting the park, riverfront, and surrounding trail network.
