NYC Ferry Service Faces Disruptions Amid UN General Assembly

NYC Ferry passengers are facing service disruptions this week as New York City implements extensive security measures for the United Nations General Assembly, bringing world leaders and dignitaries to Manhattan.

Ferry service is expected to experience temporary closures, delays, and detours as security restrictions are put in place along the East River. The disruptions come as the NYPD, alongside federal authorities, coordinates security operations around United Nations headquarters and throughout the city.

The General Assembly’s high-level meetings began Tuesday, September 22, with representatives from nearly 200 countries gathering in New York. Hundreds of motorcades will travel between the United Nations, hotels, and other venues, requiring temporary restrictions on streets and waterways.

The city has also declared Gridlock Alert Days from Monday through Friday, September 21 through 25, with extensive street closures and major traffic delays expected across Manhattan, particularly around Midtown. Officials are encouraging residents and commuters to use public transportation and allow additional travel time.

NYC Ferry passengers are advised to check the NYC Ferry website or mobile app for updated schedules and service alerts before traveling, as restrictions may change constantly throughout the week.
