DoorDash to Pay $131.5 Million in Landmark NYC Worker Pay Settlement
DoorDash has agreed to pay $131.5 million to resolve a New York City investigation into allegations that thousands of delivery workers were underpaid, not paid, or received their money late. City officials said the agreement represents the largest worker settlement in New York City history, with more than $115 million going directly to approximately 264,000 affected workers.
The settlement also requires DoorDash to provide the city with detailed payment data every month for three years and implement additional safeguards designed to identify and prevent future pay violations. Workers will also be able to share their own trip and earnings information with the city as part of a new monitoring system.
DoorDash acknowledged the payment problems, saying that “we screwed up” and that the mistakes resulted in some Dashers being underpaid or paid late. The company said many of the issues stemmed from technical glitches and complicated delivery situations, including orders that crossed city boundaries, involved multiple pickup or drop-off locations, or were canceled or only partially completed.
The agreement includes approximately $83 million related to disputes over how DoorDash calculated compensation for workers who were logged into the app and available for deliveries, as well as $12.3 million covering missed or delayed payments. DoorDash will also pay $16.7 million in civil penalties and other costs to the city.
The latest agreement follows a separate $16.75 million New York settlement announced in 2025, involving allegations that DoorDash had used customers’ tips to offset guaranteed worker pay rather than passing the full tips on to delivery workers. That earlier case involved deliveries made in New York between May 2017 and September 2019.
Under the new settlement, payments to eligible workers are expected to begin this fall, with the city determining eligibility through DoorDash’s records rather than requiring workers to submit individual claims.

Since 2023, more than 200,000 Dashers in New York City were underpaid or paid late under the City’s delivery worker pay rules. These errors were unintentional, but that doesn’t make them acceptable. Dashers should be paid in full, on time, every time. We take full responsibility,… pic.twitter.com/veFSQF1mKs

Mayor Mamdani announces a $131m settlement with DoorDash after it underpaid or failed to pay more than 250,000 delivery workers.
