Turkey Pushes Back Against Netanyahu’s UN Accusations as UN Speech Sparks Heated Exchange

Sep 25, 2026·2 min read

Turkey has rejected what it described as “baseless accusations” made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his address to the United Nations, according to Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency.

During an impassioned speech at the UN, Netanyahu referred to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as a “tyrant” and accused Turkey of providing a haven for Hamas leaders.

Netanyahu’s address to the UN General Assembly on Thursday featured sharp criticism of both Israel’s adversaries and some of its allies, prompting a strong reaction inside the chamber.

Dozens of diplomats from various countries reportedly left the assembly hall during the speech. Some participants jeered and booed, while members of Netanyahu’s delegation applauded. The session’s presiding officer also called for order.

“The latest country to become a super spreader of antisemitic lies (is Turkey),” he said.

“Erdogan is a tyrant. He also hosts the Hamas terror chiefs.”

According to Anadolu, Turkish presidency communications director Burhanettin Duran condemned Netanyahu’s remarks, saying the allegations were “incompatible” with the principles represented by the United Nations.

“Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s use of the UN General Assembly podium to level ‘baseless accusations’ against Turkiye and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was incompatible with the ‘ideals of peace, law and dialogue’ represented by the UN,” Duran says.

Duran also argued that Netanyahu’s statements could not “make his massacres, the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and the proceedings before international law invisible,” he adds.
