Unfortunately, the first days of Sukkos are expected to be rainy this year in most heimishe neighborhoods, including Kiryas Joel, but it seems like Kiryas Joel will get lucky the first night of Sukkos, with what currently looks like a dry night. Rain is expected to begin Shabbos morning, the first day of Sukkos, and continue throughout much of the remainder of the first days. The wet weather could make spending time and eating the Yom Tov seudos in the sukkah difficult, before conditions improve for most of Chol Hamoed and the second days.
Friday, Erev Sukkos, will remain dry and partly cloudy, with a high near 69 degrees. Friday evening and the overnight hours are also expected to remain dry, allowing to preform the Mitzvas Eseh D’oreisa of the first night, and enjoy the seudah in the sukkah before the rain arrives Yom Tov morning.
Shabbos, the first day of Sukkos, will unfortunately turn rainy and windy, with rain developing during the morning and continuing through much of the day. Rain will increase at around 9 a.m., and remain elevated through the afternoon and into the evening. Temperatures will remain cool, with a high near 58 degrees and winds of 15 to 25 mph.
Sunday, the second day of Sukkos, is expected to be even wetter, with periods of rain likely throughout the day. Rain chances will be particularly high from the morning through the afternoon, reaching its peak during the midday hours. Temperatures will remain cool, with a high near 59 degrees and winds of 15 to 25 mph.
The beginning of Chol Hamoed will unfortunately remain wet, with periods of rain expected Monday and a high near 60 degrees. Conditions should improve significantly beginning Tuesday, with mostly dry weather expected for the remainder of Chol Hamoed. Temperatures will also warm considerably, climbing from around 69 degrees Tuesday into the low-to-upper 70s Wednesday through Friday, making for much more pleasant Chol Hamoed weather.
Looking ahead to the second days, Shabbos, Shemini Atzeres, currently looks mostly cloudy and dry, with a high near 72 degrees. Simchas Torah on Sunday could bring a few showers, although the current forecast shows only around a 30 percent chance of rain, with temperatures reaching around 70 degrees.
Have a happy Yom Tov Sukkos!
