Lakewood Officials Urge Residents to Secure Sukkahs Ahead of Stormy Sukkos Weather

Sep 25, 2026·1 min read

With Sukkos beginning tonight, Lakewood Township officials are urging residents to take precautions as strong winds and periods of rain are expected to impact the area over Yom Tov.

The Lakewood Department of Public Works and Lakewood Police Department are asking residents to make sure Sukkahs, trash cans and other outdoor items are properly secured before the stormy conditions arrive. Officials warned that unsecured objects could be blown into roadways or cause property damage or injuries.

Residents celebrating Sukkos are specifically being urged to check that Sukkah walls, schach and other components are safely secured before Yom Tov begins.

The Lakewood area is expected to see mostly cloudy and windy conditions today, with temperatures around 70 degrees. Winds are expected to increase as Sukkos begins tonight, with showers possible. Shabbos is expected to bring periods of rain and strong winds, with gusts potentially exceeding 40 mph, while additional rain is expected into Sunday. A developing coastal storm could produce even stronger gusts in portions of the Jersey Shore region.

Lakewood Township wished residents a happy and safe weekend and holiday season while encouraging everyone to secure outdoor items before the weather deteriorates.
