Hijacking Forces Emergency Diversion of Tel Aviv-Bound Flight (Footage & Info)
Aviation authorities and security officials are investigating a dramatic midair crisis after a commercial flight traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv was forced to make an unscheduled emergency landing in Saudi Arabia following a violent attempted hijacking between flight crew members.
According to reports, the incident occurred aboard a commercial airliner carrying approximately 174 passengers en route to Ben Gurion Airport. While at cruising altitude, an altercation erupted inside the flight deck when one pilot assaulted the other. The confrontation led to an immediate loss of control, causing the aircraft to suddenly plunge an estimated 14,000 feet before the situation was stabilized by individuals on board who intervened to assist.
Witnesses on the flight recounted chaotic scenes in the main cabin, describing widespread alarm as passengers heard sudden disturbances and saw signs of an active struggle near the forward entrance of the aircraft. The rapid descent and sudden loss of altitude triggered automated emergency distress signals, raising immediate concerns of a now confirmed hijacking attempt. In response to the alert, defense officials scrambled fighter aircraft to monitor the airspace and assess potential security threats.
The crew managed to regain operational control, B’chasdei Hashem, and diverted the aircraft toward the nearest suitable airfield, touching down safely at an airport in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. Ground emergency personnel and medical teams met the aircraft upon arrival. Both pilots were transported to local medical facilities for treatment of their injuries, while all passengers disembarked safely without physical harm.
A passenger on the Dubai–Tel Aviv flight recounts: “We are currently in Saudi Arabia. One of the crew members attacked the pilot with a knife and disabled the aircraft’s systems. Yaniv (pictured?) and another passenger stormed the cockpit and subdued the attacker. Luckily, there were two more pilots on board. They were the ones who managed to land the plane.”
Well, yes. Overall, the probability that a plane full of Israelis will contain a trained assault team, two additional pilots, and, statistically, at least one cardiac surgeon, psychologist, lawyer, and diamond dealer is substantially higher than 50%.”
This would be the first time in over 20 years, someone tried to hijack a, Israel-bound plane. Miraculously, the attacker, an Omani pilot, was overpowered before he could complete his mission. ElAl suspended all UAE flights in March to what they felt was a serious security threat.
Lesson learned, whether or not this was an actual attempted hijacking, which it likely was, do not fly FlyDubai or any such flights. Stick to ElAl, Arkia, Israir, Delta, United and American Airlines.
Besuros Tovos.
