IDF Eliminates Two Oct. 7 Terrorists, Including Be’eri Abduction Cell Commander

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — The Israel Defense Forces said it killed two terrorists this week who crossed into Israel during the Oct. 7, 2023, massacre, including a Hamas cell commander it said took part in the abduction of six people from Kibbutz Be’eri.

In a strike Tuesday in the Gaza City area, the military said it eliminated Muhammad Jamal Mahmoud Abu Al-Shaar, identified as a cell commander in Hamas’ military wing. The IDF said he entered Kibbutz Be’eri on Oct. 7 and took part in the abduction to Gaza of Sharon Hertzman-Avigdori, Noam Avigdori, Adi Shoham, Nave Shoham, Yahel Shoham and Shoshan Haran.

Those six were among hostages released in the November 2023 ceasefire deal. Avigdori and her daughter, Noam, had been visiting family at the kibbutz when they were taken. Haran, a founder’s daughter and founder of the agricultural aid group Fair Planet, was seized with her daughter, Adi Shoham, and Shoham’s young children.

In a separate strike Tuesday in the Jabalia area, the IDF said it killed Musab Abd al-Jalil Saqib Balbisi, a commander in Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s military wing. The military said he also infiltrated Israeli territory on Oct. 7. It did not detail a specific attack site for Balbisi.

The IDF said both men had recently been advancing attacks on Israeli troops and civilians in what it called a systematic breach of the ceasefire, and that they were targeted to remove that threat. It said steps were taken before the strikes to limit harm to civilians, including the use of precise munitions and aerial surveillance.

Troops under the IDF’s Southern Command remain deployed in the area under the terms of the agreement and will keep operating against immediate threats, the military said.

Be’eri, a kibbutz near the Gaza border, was among the communities hardest hit on Oct. 7, when Hamas-led attackers killed residents and took hostages into the Gaza Strip.
