‘KILL ME, KILL ME’: Flydubai Co-Pilot Was Apparently on Suicide Mission, Israel Says

Oct 1, 2026·3 min read

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in an interview with Fox News Thursday that the co-pilot of the flydubai flight who tried to hijack the plane “underwent Islamist radical indoctrination” without providing details. However, an Israeli official told The Times of Israel that the pilot’s social media accounts discussed killing Jews.

The official also said that, based on the co-pilot’s entreaties to Emirati crew members to kill him, the pilot had suicidal jihadi aspirations.

“This was a person who was willing to commit suicide,” said the official. “His social media accounts [say] clearly that he has been radicalized into jihadist ideology. He talks about killing Jews.”

“We can’t say for sure until the investigation’s over,” the official added, “but it certainly seems like he was a suicide actor who was probably going to try to down that plane.”

“The attacker, he calls out to the aircrew, ‘Kill me, kill me,'” Netanyahu told Fox News. “It’s clear he was suicidal.”

The Israeli premier added that it was too soon to know whether Iran was behind the incident but expected to find out shortly.

“It might be attempted again because we have indications that Iran and its proxies are trying to conduct attacks against Israel and Israelis right now in this election season,” Netanyahu warned.

Netanyahu said he expected Saudi Arabia to transfer the pilot to Dubai, where Israel would be able to join the interrogation. Saudi Arabia does not have diplomatic ties with Israel. In the meantime, according to the anonymous official, Israel is conducting its own probe to find out how a pilot of Omani origin was going to land a plane in Israel. According to the bilateral agreements that Israel has with other countries, only pilots from states that have diplomatic ties with Israel can land planes in the Jewish state.

“There was a loophole here, and we’re taking care of that,” Netanyahu said, referring to the pilot from Oman, which does not have diplomatic ties with Israel.

The incident unfolded Wednesday as a fight broke out in the cockpit of the flydubai airplane carrying about 180 Israeli passengers. The alleged hijacker, who was a co-pilot, tried to take control of the Boeing 737 MAX, managing to push the aircraft into a nosedive of 14,000 feet in just one minute. Passengers rushed the cockpit and subdued the potential hijacker. The plane was diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where both pilots, who sustained wounds in the cockpit fight, were taken to a hospital for treatment. Video footage shows that a passenger was wounded and bleeding as well.

Israel is coordinating with Saudi Arabia to send an Israeli Air Force plane to retrieve the stranded passengers and bring them to Israel, where they will be debriefed by the Shin Bet. The suspect’s motives are under investigation by both Saudi and Israeli intelligence.

The Mossad is taking the lead in the probe, and the transportation minister has requested a freeze on flights between Israel and the United Arab Emirates while the investigation is ongoing.
