Shapiro Likens Mamdani Antisemitism Plan To Simpson Pledge To Find ‘Real Killer’
NASHVILLE (VINnews) — Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro mocked Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s newly released strategy to combat antisemitism, comparing the mayor’s pledge to a promise by O.J. Simpson to find the person responsible for the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.
“Zohran Mamdani has a new plan to fight anti-Semitism. Which is basically OJ Simpson pledging to track down the real killer,” Shapiro wrote on X, attaching a segment from his Daily Wire program.
Mamdani, the city’s first Muslim mayor, on Tuesday released what City Hall called New York’s first comprehensive municipal strategy against antisemitism. The report of more than 30 pages lays out spending on hate-crime prevention, synagogue security, Holocaust education and Jewish cultural institutions. It does not adopt a formal definition of antisemitism and largely avoids the mayor’s long-running dispute with critics over Israel.
Jewish New Yorkers are about 12% of the city’s population but account for roughly half of reported hate-crime victims, the administration said. Police figures cited by Jewish outlets showed anti-Jewish incidents up 8.5% in the first seven months of 2026, with Jewish victims in 57% of reported hate crimes.
The plan directs $6.4 million to the Partners Against the Hate grant program for community groups that work on prevention and survivor support, including the Jewish Community Relations Council, and $1 million for physical security at synagogues and other houses of worship. It also sets aside $2 million to finish the Queens Holocaust memorial and $2.5 million for the Center for New Jewish Culture in central Brooklyn. City Hall said hate-crime prevention funding has risen sharply from the prior year and that an interagency security working group disbanded in 2024 has been revived.
“Antisemitism has no place in New York City,” Mamdani said in a statement with the report. In a video announcing the strategy, he said Jewish New Yorkers “deserve to be safe, celebrated and protected” and should “feel cherished and celebrated in the most Jewish city in America.”
The rollout came days after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking at the United Nations, called Mamdani “the antisemitic mayor of New York.” Mamdani has accused Israel of genocide in Gaza, skipped the city’s annual Israel parade in June and, on his first day in office, revoked an executive order by former Mayor Eric Adams that had adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of antisemitism. That definition treats some forms of anti-Zionism as antisemitic. The new report says the city can fight antisemitism without adopting a definition.
Israel’s consul general in New York, Ofir Akunis, has said Mamdani’s language about Israel endangers Jewish New Yorkers. Rabbi Rick Jacobs, president of the Union for Reform Judaism, has praised parts of the security and education plan while urging the mayor to drop harsh anti-Israel rhetoric that, Jacobs said, fuels attacks on Jews.
Shapiro, an Orthodox Jew and co-founder of The Daily Wire, has been among the mayor’s sharpest national critics. His post framed the strategy as an investigation led by the person critics already hold responsible for the climate it is meant to address.
