Gutten Vinter to all!Suspected Flydubai Plot Prompts Review of Foreign Airline Security
New details have emerged about the attempted hijacking of a Dubai-to-Tel Aviv Flydubai flight, with reports claiming that the Omani co-pilot planned to crash the aircraft into Ben Gurion Airport’s terminal.
According to the reported interrogation account, the suspect attacked the Indian captain while the plane was flying over Jordan and intended to carry out the crash during the final moments of the landing approach, when interception would be difficult. The injured captain reportedly managed to open the cockpit door, allowing others to intervene.
Initial Israeli investigative reports suggest the suspect may have acted alone. He is also suspected of shutting down the aircraft’s engines during the incident. The allegations and the precise sequence of events remain subject to investigation.
Following the incident, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed National Security Council chief Shmuel Ben Ezra to appoint an examiner to conduct a comprehensive review of security arrangements for foreign civilian flights arriving in Israel.
Netanyahu Invites Indian Pilot to Light Independence Day Torch
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with Indian Captain Smit Machchhar, praising his actions during the Flydubai cockpit attack and thanking him for helping prevent a potential disaster.
Netanyahu told the captain that his actions made him a hero to Israel, India and people around the world. He also extended an invitation for Machchhar and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to jointly light a torch during Israel’s Independence Day celebrations.

During their conversation, Netanyahu asked the pilot to describe how the incident began and what unfolded inside the cockpit as the crew struggled to regain control of the aircraft.
The invitation follows widespread praise for the Indian captain and the passengers who reportedly intervened during the emergency.
IDF Eliminates Hamas Operative Accused of Using Humanitarian Organization to Fund Terror
The IDF announced that it killed Saqr Nabil Musa Qaisi in a strike in Khan Younis earlier today, identifying him as a Hamas Nukhba operative who infiltrated Israel during the October 7 massacre.
According to the military, Qaisi also headed the Turkish organization Deniz Feneri, which presents itself as a humanitarian aid group. The IDF alleges that the organization maintained connections with senior Hamas figures and was used to employ operatives, provide financial support to Hamas terrorists and help advance the group’s activities under the cover of humanitarian work.
The military said Qaisi had continued advancing attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians during the war and was involved in efforts to rebuild Hamas’s capabilities in violation of the ceasefire.
The IDF said the operation was intended to eliminate the threat he posed and reiterated that it would continue targeting financial networks supporting Hamas’s military infrastructure.
The allegations regarding Qaisi and the organization’s activities were attributed to the IDF.
Trump Praises Israeli Passenger Yaniv Hayoun as a Hero
President Donald Trump praised Israeli plumber Yaniv Hayoun for his role in helping passengers and crew regain control of the Flydubai flight following the alleged cockpit attack.
Speaking in a video shared on Truth Social, Trump credited Hayoun with stepping in during the emergency and joked about his ability to learn under pressure.
“He did an amazing job. He got in there and he learned how to fly by watching air disasters on television,” Trump said.
Trump continued with a personal expression of admiration:
“And he’s my kind of guy. He can be my plumber. He can be whatever he wants to be. What a job he did. He’s a hero.”

Hayoun was among those credited with helping restrain the alleged attacker aboard Flight FZ1073, which was traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv when the cockpit confrontation occurred.
IDF Targets Senior Hamas Leader Ali al-Amoudi in Gaza Strike
Israeli forces reportedly targeted Ali al-Amoudi, considered a leading Hamas figure in Gaza and a potential successor to Yahya Sinwar, in an overnight strike on an apartment in the Strip.
An Israeli official reportedly said al-Amoudi was inside the building and had little chance of survival, although his death was not confirmed in the initial reports. Palestinian sources reported five fatalities, including four women, two of whom were identified as Christian residents of Gaza.
Al-Amoudi reportedly plays a central role in Hamas’s governing structure in Gaza through its Government Emergency Committee. He previously oversaw the group’s media and propaganda operations and was released from Israeli prison in the 2011 Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange.
Reports have also linked him closely to Sinwar and the planning of the October 7 attacks.
The strike comes amid an intensified Israeli campaign against Hamas’s remaining senior leadership. The IDF and Shin Bet said 70 operatives were killed during September, including three brigade commanders, two battalion commanders and nine company commanders.
Among those reportedly killed was Izz al-Din Bik, Hamas’s northern Gaza brigade commander. The IDF alleged that he personally oversaw the captivity of more than a dozen Israeli hostages, some of whom died while being held.
Trump Announces $90 Medicare Payments for Millions of Seniors
President Donald Trump announced that more than 20 million eligible seniors will receive a one-time payment of $90 intended to help cover Medicare Part B premiums.
According to the White House, payments will be distributed by direct deposit or check through the Medicare Improvement Fund. Certain beneficiaries, including those whose premiums are already covered by Medicaid and those paying income-related premium surcharges, are excluded.
Trump described the fund as a wasteful government account that his administration is now using to help reduce healthcare expenses. He also credited his administration’s prescription drug pricing agreements with helping lower costs.
“I pledged to protect and preserve Medicare and Social Security,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, adding that his administration was delivering on that promise.
The announcement follows a separate administration proposal to issue $500 payments to approximately 950,000 Affordable Care Act enrollees over alleged excessive fees that contributed to higher insurance costs. Trump said the Medicare payments are separate from those proposed refunds.
Trump also reiterated his proposal for a $5,000 payment, which he has called a “Trump Dividend,” saying it would be distributed to American citizens if Republicans win the midterm elections. The proposal is separate from the announced Medicare payments, and its implementation would depend on the details and any required legislative action.
