New Traffic Light Approved for Wythe Avenue and North 3rd Street
By Y.M. Lowy
A new traffic light has been approved for the intersection of Wythe Avenue and North 3rd Street, following a study by the NYC Department of Transportation.
The approval is the first step in the process, with the actual installation expected to take time. DOT will first conduct a field survey of the intersection before designing the new signal system.
Once the design is completed, the project will move through permitting and coordination with utility companies before construction can begin.
The installation will include underground work for power and communications, a new pole foundation, the traffic signal poles and signal heads, as well as an accessible pedestrian signal.
The timeline can vary depending on the complexity of the intersection, but installing a new traffic signal typically takes at least six months.
