Vice President JD Vance says Iran must make a meaningful reduction in its nuclear enrichment capacity before Washington agrees to end the seven-month war, Reuters reports.
In an exclusive interview with Reuters during a campaign trip to Alaska on Monday, Vance said the US wants an actual reduction, not promises of future limits.
“I think if they want to show a commitment to not building a nuclear weapon, they would do something meaningful on their enrichment capacity,” Vance said. “We’re not going to trade words for actions.”
Vance also said Washington is unsure who holds authority in Tehran: “One of the things we picked up on is it’s not totally clear how their country makes decisions.” On Sunday, a day before Vance’s interview, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said US officials understand Iran’s leadership structure.
