Israel recently marked two years since Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Friday, September 27, 2024.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was in New York for the UN General Assembly when he authorized the strike.
At 6:21 p.m., Israeli Air Force jets struck Hezbollah’s underground headquarters in Beirut’s Dahiyeh district with 83 bombs, according to the IDF. Israel announced Nasrallah’s death the following day, and Hezbollah confirmed it.
Belaaz can now reveal a previously unreported detail about the intelligence behind the operation: information about Nasrallah’s whereabouts also came through the Israel Prison Service, where Chareidim serve in key intelligence roles.
As part of reforms in recent years, the Prison Service has strengthened its intelligence wing, which gathers information from security prisoners and shares it with Israel’s defense establishment.
A number of Chareidim hold key positions in the unit, which works regularly with the Shin Bet and Mossad.
According to a senior Israel Prison Service official who spoke with Belaaz News, a prisoner affiliated with Hezbollah disclosed information about Nasrallah’s location. The information was passed to Israel’s political and military leadership while Netanyahu was abroad.
Israel seized the opportunity and carried out the strike that killed Nasrallah.
