WATCH: Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate BLAZES in Israeli Blue and White on Oct. 7 Anniversary

Oct 7, 2026·2 min read

The most famous landmark in Berlin, Germany, the 18th-century neoclassical monument known as the Brandenburg Gate, is lit up in the colors of the Israeli flag to mark the anniversary of the Hamas-led Oct.7, 2023, attack on Israel in which the terrorist group murdered 1,200 Israelis and took another 251 hostages.

“Berlin is sending a signal to the world that we stand with Israel, that we hope with the families of the hostages that humanity and compassion will always be stronger than hatred,” said Kai Wegner, the mayor of the German capital.

“Berlin is the city of freedom,” he added.

The iconic gate was also illuminated with the slogan “Bring them home now,” the slogan chanted by hostage supporters to urge action on behalf of those in Hamas captivity after they were kidnapped from their homes or from the Nova Music Festival and brought to the Gaza Strip.

Israeli Ambassador to Germany Ron Prosor thanked the city for its show of support.

“Three years after October 7, the Brandenburg Gate is illuminated in the colors of Israel,” the diplomat wrote on X. “I thank Mayor Kai Wegner for this from the bottom of my heart. It is an important gesture to all Jews who must hide their identity every day on Berlin’s streets.”

“The Israel-haters have not succeeded in driving a wedge between us. We know exactly who stood by our side in these three years. Because true friendship is only revealed in difficult times. Toda raba,” he added.
