Congers Lake Trailway Repairs to Begin Allowing Full Access Around Lake to Be Restored

After months of closure due to structural safety concerns, repairs are set to begin on the damaged section of the Congers Lake Trailway, moving the popular trail closer to being fully reopened to the public.
Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann and members of the Town Board announced the plans Thursday morning at Congers Lake, detailing the upcoming construction work to repair and reopen the affected portion of the trailway.
The closure affects the boardwalk between location markers 47 and 54, where a number of aging support pilings shifted and became detached from the decking, prompting the Town to close the section over safety concerns.
Efforts to repair the damaged section have been underway for months, with the project requiring permits from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Earlier this year, Town officials said the permitting process had prevented them from providing a firm timeline for when the trailway could fully reopen.
With repairs now set to move forward, the construction will address the damaged portion of the boardwalk and allow the closed section to reopen once the work is completed.
The reopening will now m restore continuous access around Congers Lake, once again allowing residents to complete the full loop while walking, running, or biking along the trailway.
